After She's Gone

Over the past three weeks, I've had the pleasure of my mom's company. She arrived bearing suitcases laden with "the list" I had sent her, and left with suitcases full of surprises for friends and family. This trip we didn't do a lot of touristy things; we just lived life together--homeschooling, trips to the grocery store, dinner and dishes, decorating for Junior Church, keeping appointments . . . .

Yesterday, she was gone. I knew it would be hard--lots of little reminders of our time together.

  • Passing by the empty guest room. As Ethan said, "It's just too plain without Granny."

  • Little vitamin baggie for "A.M. vitamins" left behind for me to re-use.

  • Doing dishes in the morning and leaving dishes overnight (she would never do that!)

  • Making "rounds" in the morning to tidy up all the beds

  • The candle on the table she bought to replace the candle she bought for me three years ago on her last visit

  • Finishing up the Junior Church tree with little beaded ornaments she so graciously helped to make

  • Hot dogs for lunch (who knew she loves hot dogs!?!)

  • Listening to Celtic Woman Christmas--our Christmas standard while she was here

  • Picking up the Vonage phone and realizing that we are on opposite ends of the phone and four hours apart again

So, as I always say,"When you're sad, make a Smilebox!" Here's a little look at our time with Granny:
